Abstract: A combined Riccati transfer matrix-direct integration method is proposed in the present paper. Its principal distinguishment with the combined transfer matrix-direct integration method is to employ the Riccati transfer matrix to derive the equations of the motion of a characteristic disk. Therefore, it has the advantages of the combined transfer matrix-direct integration method. It is better than the combined transfer matrix-direct integration method in numerical stability and its precision. It is particularly adapted to calculate the modes and the response. The present method is used to study the dynamical behavior of the rotorbearing system.The equation of the motion of the twin-spool rotorbearing system are derived and an example is given to analyse the critical speeds and modes of a twin-spool engine. The results are satisfatory to compare with those of the transfer matrix method and the combined transfer matrix-direct integration method.
