Abstract: The trapped vortex combustor (TVC) is different from traditional combustors in its combustion method. Based on previous experimental studies, a preliminary study on the empirical correlation of lean blow-out (LBO) is conducted on a TVC. Compared with Lefebvre’s empirical correlation of LBO, the proposed new empirical correlation in this article agrees better with the experimental data of TVC. The new empirical correlation takes into consideration the effect of the atomizing performance of the evaporation tube, the mainstream flow rate, the entrainment of mainstream flow of the cavity, etc. The resultant LBO data from the new correlation are consistent with experimental observation under different operating conditions, and the largest error is less than 15%.
