Abstract: The 20th, October, 1992 is the date of the 40th anniversary of the founding of Nanjing Aeronautical Institute(NAI). During the past 40 years, more than 30 000 high-technique specialists have been trained for our country, and over 1 000 important scientific achievements including pilotless aircrafts, helicopter and light aircrafts etc., had been successfully developed, offering a great contribution to the modernization of national defence and the national economical construction. There are more than 6 000 students(including post graduates and post doctor students), the staff of more than 3 000 persons, 15 departments, 29 specialities for undergraduate students, 22 for mastership and 10 for doctorate, 3 for post-doctorate research institutions and 3 for state-offered disciplines. An integrated system of both educational centre and scientific research centre has been formed. In the future, we will further emancipate the mind, strengthen compecitive sense, actively adapt to the needs of economic construction and social development, establish a new mechanism for education, research and production, and attain a new step in quantity, quality, structure and benefit of the education. Let us strive for the realization of NAI to be a first-rank scientific technology university of aeronautical and astronautical features with widespread influence at home and abroad.
