NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF STREAMWISE VORTICITY IN THE FLOW FIELD OF A LOBED MIXER

Abstract:

A numeriacl analysis on the flow field of a lobed mixer was made by means of N S equations. The computation was achieved on the whole flow field including main flow channel, secondary flow channel located on either side of the lobe and downstream mixing duct. Three dimensional body fitted coordinates and the method of non staggered grids together with k ε turbulence model were used in the computation. The flowfield and distribution of streamwise and normal vorticity were obtained. Analyses were made on the development of streamwise vorticity and its effects on the normal vorticity. Comparisons were also made between computational and experimental data of pressure distribution on the wall of the mixing duct and velocity distribution on the exit of the duct.
