APPLICATION OF STRESS WAVE TO INSTALLING INTERFERENCE-FIT FASTENERS

Abstract: The method for applying stress wave to installing interference-fit fasteners is presented in this paper. The method can avert or reduce the gouging and galling caused by using hammering method or hydraulic apparatus for driving interference-fit fasteners. The stress wave method was experimented on fasterners of 30CrMnSiA steel and fatigue test for the bolts installed by using different methods was conducted. The results of tests are presented. The galling of the method and the factors affecting the method were analysed. In order to realise fine interference-fit and to obtain anticipated strengthening benefit it is important to choose proper parameters: interference and intensity of stress wave.
