Abstract: A method for determining civil airplane take-off weight for a given mission profile is presented which can rapidly estimate the weight of a large civil airplane in the conceptual design process for the manufacture of airplanes. The coefficients in the calculation formula are revised based on the design data of recent commercial airplanes to predict the weight more precisely. Existence of the solutions by this method and the convergence property of this method are also justified in this article. The estimation method is verified by a design example of an arterial civil airplane for China. The reasonable range of the calculation result of the airplane is also discussed in the article. These results can be of direct value to future design for China’s civil airplane project.
