Abstract: In this paper a new high-order plate bending displacement field is developed for the analysis of composite laminated plated. Such a displacement field considers reasonably the effect of transverse shear deformation and the normal stress σz distribution through the thickness of the plate. It satisfies the zero shear stress and normal stress σz conditions at the upper and bottom surfaces, and gives up the assumption of εz = 0. Consequently, a two dimensional finite element model, which gives solutions approximately equivalent to those of three dimensional elasticity, is established. The model possesses the advantages of good accuracy and reasonable amount of computation. The finite element model can be applied to thin and thick composite laminated plates bending and vibration problems, The authors' model gives computed natural frequencies and vibration modes of composite laminated plate that agree fairly well with experimental results. Such agreement is considerably better than that attainable with precursory models.
