Abstract: To meet the requirement for aircraft engine exhausts measurements and overcome the drawbacks of traditional measurement methods, such as complex systems, difficult technology, costliness and poor realtime realization, the remote passive sensing technology is applied to monitor aircraft engine exhausts, using the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) emissionspectroscopy to quantify the compounds of the gases from the engine exhausts. The principle of measurement of remote sensing and a model algorithm of atmospheric radiation are introduced. The emission spectrums of aircraft engine exhausts are obtained by using a Tensor27 FTIR-system in a test rig. With 14%, 26%, 50%, and 69% of the maximum thrusts, the emission indices of CO are, respectively, 40.0, 30.7, 6.67, and 2.56 g/kg; the emission indices of NO are 0.79, 2.09, 8.24, and 38.7 g/kg, respectively. The results show that the FTIR-emission-spectroscopy has a very good prospect for application in measuring aircraft engine exhausts.
