Abstract: By referring to REDUCE system, a new system and language of non-numerical manipulation for symbolic analysis has been built on PC micro-computer. The sysmbolic analysis system is a mathematical expert system, which makes the use of the principles and methods of artificial intelligence to solve the algebra, calculus and other calculating problems. In addition to being a system for calculating manipulation,it is also a language for the statement of problems. With a set of simple syntax, users can write program in its own source language. The system can operate both in interactive manner or in porgram manner. The results are given in two-dimensional analysis form or FORTRAN source program form which may be used in numerical calculation later. The system has complete systematic control functions and error-handling capability, allowing job-embeding. The job may be interrupted if necessary. Windows and function-keys provide great convenience to users. Finally two non-numerical examples of the system are presented.
