Abstract:

In this paper, a one-dimensional analytical model is developed for the ortho-tropic laminates with through-width delamination subjected to compressive loads. On the basis of the first order shear deformable plate theory analysis, the energy release rate G and its individual components G、G for the deiamination growth are obtained using a combination of the variational problem with the moving boundary and fracture mechanics. This method is more convenient than the finite element method and is verified by numerical calculation. The effects of the applied load and delamination length on energy release rate G and G are also discussed in the parametric study.
