Abstract: Ni.sB17Si8 alloy melt is undercooled by more then 400 K at a cooling rate of 10-20K/s by means of cyclically superheating within a suitable slag and subsequently cyclically superheating at levitation state and under vacuum. The purified melt is quenched into copper slots to form metallic glass sheets. It is found that purification increased the critical thickness of the sheets at which metallic glass could be formed. Ni75B17Si8 metallic glass sheets of a thickness of 0.5 mm are formed by quenching the purified melt which can be undercooled by more than 400 K at a cooling rate 10 - 20 K/s.
