Abstract: Ferroelectric material is one of the smart materials with both sense and actuation functions. In recent years, the advances in these materials are very fast. Especially, new single crystals of relaxor ferroelectric compositions have been developed by Park and Shrout. This is an exciting breakthrough, because strain of materials has been improved by a factor of 10. The strain up to 1.7% with excellent 1inearity and negligible hysteresis has been demonstrated in PZN-PT ceramics systems. Elastic energy density of more than 66 000 J/m 3 and blocking force of 35 MPa have been recorded. Other parameters are also higher than those of common ferroceramics. Ferroelectric polymer is reviewed too. A new treatment for Poly(VDF/TrFE) which converts the ferroelectric to a relaxor ferroelectric has been developed. It is presented that ferroelectric materials could find application in aircraft to solve the issues of aircraft.
