Abstract: A Primary Factor Model (PFM) for jet engine fault diagnosis is presented, which is a kind of parameter diagnosis method based on the engine fault equation. The PF'M can be used to diagnose numerous fault categories with fewer measurements, avoid missing of reasonable solutions, decrease the adverse effect of the multi-collineanty of the fault equation, guarantee the highest precision and confidence of the diagnosis results, and provide evaluation information concerning the reliability of the diagnostic results. The basic theory of PFM, its practical optimal algorithm and calculation examples are presented and the test results for 24 fault samples of JT9D engine are given. Theoretical analysis and practical test of PFM show that PFM is an effective method of fault diagnosis.
