Abstract:

In this paper, two cases of optimal configuration for armor are discussed, based on the model of the dynamic response theory for ceramic/aluminum composite armor penetrated normally by small AP. One case is that given the armor's area density, the curve of the ballistic-limited velocity varying with the optimal coefficient is simulated; another is that given the ballistic-limited velocity, the curve of the armor's area density varying with the optimal coefficient is also simulated. The most suitable optimal coefficients of different armors are proposed, and an experiment has been conducted to verify them. It is shown that the test results are in good agreement with the calculated values.
