Abstract: The mechanical and thermal properties of bisphenol A dicyanate(BADCy) modified by epoxy resin E51 are studied. It is found that, when 5% (mass fraction) epoxy resin E51 is introduced, the flexural strength and impact strength of BADCy can improve from 95.6MPa and 9.24kJ/m2 to 117.8MPa and 12.6kJ/m2, respectively, but the heat deformation temperature (HDT) of this system only descendes 8℃. The flexural strength, flexural modulus and inter-laminar shear strength of composite made from M40J and BADCy modified by 5% (mass fraction) epoxy resin E51 are as high as 1270MPa, 172GPa and 68.9MPa, respectively. Little amount of defoamer BYK 141 can improve the mechanical properties of M40J/BADCy composites. The inter-laminar shear strength(ILSS) is improved from 68.9MPa to 77.1MPa. Additionally, thanking to its excellent environment-resistant, M40J/BADCy composites are suitable for application of space structures.
