Abstract: The merits and shortcomings of three dimensional steady flow numerical analysis nowadays in turbomachinery in China are presented based on the development of a high performance fan and a new axial compressor with the splitter rotor, and the improvement of a 200 MW stream turbine and a mixed compressor introduced in the paper, and the value of three dimensional unsteady flow numerical analysis nowadays in turbomachinery are also discussed based on the study of interactions of pylon and fan, rotor and stator, and rotor and casing treatment. Finally, the challenges and tendencies of the CFD technique are pointed out in the paper.
