THE BOUNDARY ELEMENT METHOD FOR CALCULATING THE STRESS INTENSITY FACTORS OF A SEMI-ELLIPTICAL SURFACE CRACK

Abstract:

This paper studies the boundary element method for calculating the stress intensity factors of a semi-elliptical surface crack. The suitable locations and the optimum size of the singular isoparametric elements are presented. To verify the conclusion of this paper the stress-intensity factors of a semi-elliptical surface crack in a tension specimen and a cylinder are calculated.
