DOA Estimation for Passive Synthetic Arrays of Moving Single Sensor

Abstract: A direction of arrival (DOA) estimation algorithm for the passive synthetic arrays (PSA) of a moving single sensor is proposed. Based on the concept of PSA in combination with the idea of spatial spectrum estimation, this algorithm constructs a PSA model, and then in accordance with this data model uses an improved multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm to estimate the DOA of signals impinging on the single sensor. Theoretical analysis shows that, on the assumption that the signal frequencies are known, the algorithm can achieve the same performance in synthesizing one uniform linear array at uniform velocity as the actual physical aperture array using MUSIC algorithm does. Simulation results verify that the passive synthetic array is equivalent to the real aperture array and verify the effect of this algorithm.
