Abstract: n search phase of over-the-horizon anti-ship missile (ASM) guidance, the scheme using the aiming point is widely used at present to acquire the correct target ship. However, it is greatly influenced by the terminal dispersion of previous self-control phase and the maneuvering of the target ship. In view of this, this article proposes a target selection method using the “mutual position relationship (MPR)”, i.e., the relative positions of other ships to the reference ship. For a ship formation, different reference ships get different MPRs. In the ship formation imported before launch, the target ship is selected as the reference ship and its MPR is computed. Then the target ship in the ship formation detected by terminal guidance radar is the one whose MPR is most similar to that mentioned above. This kind of target selection method is not influenced by the terminal dispersion of self-control phase and the consistent maneuvering of the ship formation. Simulation results show that the probabilities to select the target ships are higher than those using the aiming point scheme.
