Abstract:

The "distance decreasing method" is developed which can be used to confirm the corresponding cells of overset grids efficiently. This method is suitable for hole cutting and grid interface interpolation of overset grids, and it can also be combined with the inverse map method to build a map quickly. It turns a three-dimensional or two dimensional search into a quasi-linear search so the efficiency is high. This algorithm is reliable, widely applicable and easy to be actualized. Application shows that this method has high efficiency in overset grid calculation, especially in three dimensional unsteady computational fluid dynamics (CFD) which requires hole cutting and grid interface interpolation at every calculating location. As this method can reduce calculating time noticeably, it may find wide application in engineering.
