Abstract:

In this paper, analytical solutions for calculating the effective width of stiffened panel plating considering all the influences of initial deflection, residual stresses, transversely applied stresses and lateral loads are derived based on the elastic large deflection theory. The residual stress distribution adopts the Faulkner model. The uniform lateral loads have been considered. Numerical examples are given and the results indicate that all these factors have some effection on the effective width. Therefore, the present solutions provide a more accurate method for calculating the effective width of stiffened panel plating.
