Abstract:

In previous work by authors, a disk type electrorheological damper was designed to control the vibration of rotor systems. In this paper, a multiple squeeze films electrorheological damper was designed first. It is found, from experiment, that the critical resonant amplitude was suppressed effectively by this damper when the imposed electric field increased, but when the speed is greater than 2400r/min, the response of rotor system increased as the imposed electric field increased. In order to avoid this side effect, an on/off control method was introduced. With this method, the critical resonant amplitude was suppressed and the side effect was eliminated, on the other hand, this method did not cause unstability to the rotor system. Finally, the effectiveness of the damper to suppress the sudden unbalance response of the rotor system was verified through experiment.
