Abstract:

A scratch geometry model of aircraft cabin glass is established through the investigation on the causes of scratch yielding and census of the scratch defects. Specimens of MDYB-3 glass are tested to obtain the fracture toughness of surface cracks and the threshold of scratch propagation, then the prediction methods of the residual strength and the scratch tolerance for the MDYB-3 glass with scratch defects are developed. The scratch tolerance value of MDYB-3 glass plate of 9mm thickness are determined based on the experimental results and analysis, which provides a simple method for the treatment of scratch defects in aircrafts disposed outfield.
