Abstract:

A technique is proposed for wideband electromagnetic (EM) scattering simulation and analysis of ships over sea surfaces by combining a multipath model with a forward complex reflecting coefficient model of rough sea surfaces in different states. The multipath interaction between the target and the sea surface is briefly analyzed. The method of target EM scattering calculation is discussed. A study is performed of the impact of different sea states on the sea surface complex reflection coefficient as well as the variation of the coefficient with radar signatures scattered from the ship over the sea surface. By comparing the radar cross section (RCS) results of direct path and multipath calculated in different sea states, the influence of multipaths on the scattering of ships on the sea is analyzed. Two dimensional (2D) inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) images in different sea states are presented, which demonstrate the validity of the current technique.
