Abstract: This paper deals with coatings on the surface of Ti6A14V with laser treatment for improving its poor resistance to wear and susceptibility to galling and seizing during contacts with most metals and alloys. A 1,5 kW continuous wave CO2 gas laser was utilized to melt powder of hexagonal BN with or without Ni-Cr-Cc-Al-Y powder on- the sur-face of Ti6A14V for obtaining coatings. X-ray diffractometer, optical metallograph and Vic-kers microhardness. tester were employed to characterize the coatings. Results show that hard compounds TiN and TiB2 were emerged in the coatings and the average thickness of high hardness area was 0.5mm. The coatings formed from 75 vol. % BN+25 vol. % (Ni-Cr-Co-Al) was of no cracks and had surface hardness of 1200HV. The wear behavour of such coatings was studied using a pin-to-bar wear tester. The laser coatings improved wear-resistant properties of Ti6A14V very significantly.
