Abstract: Aramid aluminum laminate is a new kind of hybrid composite。The residual stresses of the ordinarily cured unidirectional laminate and prestressed laminate are analyzed quantitatively. The results indicate that the longitudinal residual stress in fibre/resin layers of ordinarily cured laminate is cornpressive and the prestress can reverse the residual stress in compression to that in tension,The reversed residual stress system is favorable to the properties of the laminate. In order to examine the analyzing formulations, strain gages were embedded in the unidirec-tional aramid aluminum laminates(ordinarlly cured and prestressed) to determine the residual stresses in the aluminum layers. On the other hand, the residual stresses in fibre/resin layers can be calculated according to the balance of forces in the laminate,The analyzed values of residual stress are in good agreement with thexperimental ones in the longitudinal direction.

Key words: aramid fibres-aluminum allogs-laminates, residual stress, prestressing
