NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF NARROW STRIP PEEN FORMING

Abstract:

The study presented herein is the numerical simulation of a narrow strip peen forming process, an effective method to form single curvature surfaces. The key problem in the numerical simulation is how to transform the given peening parameters into the equivalent nodal forces, which is solved by the equivalent deformation method proposed by the author. Since the deformation of the skin panel from its developed configuration to the given shape is not beyond its elastic limit, the deformation of the panel can be calculated by the elastic thin shell finite element method. To realize the above mentioned method, a program package has been developed. An example is given to show the validity of the proposed numerical simulation method.
