Abstract: An engineering method, a semi-experimental and semi-theoretical method are presented for determining the residual stresses at the edges of cold-worked open holes. A nondestructive method, i. e. the common Moire method, to measure the strains at the edges of holes is used. When the mandrel is pushed in and pulled out, respectively, based on these measured strains the residual stresses at the edges of cold-worked open holes are calculated by following loading path. The procedures of determining the residual stresses are explained in details.
