Abstract: In this paper, a new theory is developed for large deflection of closely stiffened truncated laminated composite conical shells under arbitrary loads by using the variational calculus and smeared-stiffener theory. The most general bending-stretching coupling, the effect of eccentricity of stiffeners and initial deflection are considered. The new equations of the mixed type of the shell are obtained in terms of the transverse deflection and stress function and can be used to solve the problems of stress analysis, deflection, stability and vibration of the shell. The simplified equations are also given for some particular cases.
