THE FEATURES OF OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF A OCEAN-GOING HELICOPTER TO THE ANTARCTIC CONTINENT

Abstract: The helicopter No.179 "Super Frelon" and its 27 aircrew, as a part of the Scientific Research Group of China for the Antarctic Continent and the Antarctic Ocean, took part in the establishment of the Great Wall Centre of China in 1984-1985 and made scientific investigation on the George and the waters near it.The main purpose of this paper is to introduce the special natural conditions--sea environment, geographical conditions and meteprological features on the way of the voyage and in the Antarc- tic area; And some main problems that were brought about to operation and maintenance of the helicopter. In the end, the paper makes some suggestions as to what features our ship board helicopter should possess to meet the needs ocean-going and the polar region.
