CALCULATION OF RECIRCULATING FLOW BEHIND FLAME-HOLDERS

Abstract:

Adoptability of standard k-ε turbulence model for numerical calculation of recirculating flow is discussed. Many computations of recir-culating flows behind bluff-bodies used as flame-holders in afterburner of aeroengine have been completed. Blocking-off method to treat the incline walls of the flame-holder gives good results. In isothermal recirculating flows the flame-holder wall is assumed to be isolated. Therefore, it is possible to remove the inactive zone from the calculation domain in programming to save computer time. The computation for a V-shaped flame-holder exhibits an interesting phenomenon that the recircu-lation zone extends to the cavity of the flame-holder.
