Abstract: Doubly Salient Permanent Magnet Motor (DSPM) is a novel electromechanical controllable AC variable speed system presented in 1990’s. There are two kinds of control strategies for the motor system. Usually control strategy Ⅰ is adopted on the conditions of lower revolving speed and larger torque. Control strategy Ⅱ is adopted on the conditions of higher revolving speed and smaller torque. In this paper, research on steady characteristic model is carried out for a 12/8 poles DSPM motor system working in the two strategies. And the working status for main circuit can be depicted by a series of one order nonlinear differential equations. By Finite Element Analysis (FEA) method, the field flux and inductance characteristics of a DSPM prototype can be acquainted. On the base of these characteristics and differential equations, a simulation model for computing the steady characteristics of the motor is constructed in Matlab programming environment. A comparison between simulation results and tests is made, and there are good accordance between them.
