Abstract:

In the paper, the analysis of the void enlargement during the deformation of axisymmetric tensile specimens made of alloy steel 40Cr has been carried out by employing a larg elastic-plastic deformation finite element program. The result obtained shows that the void expands differently in the longitudinal and in the radial directions, and the stress triaxiality plays an important role on it.The ratio of void increment in radial direction to that in longitudinal direction is found to be a linear function or the stress triaxiality. All the calculations are not far away from the results of the experiments of the same alloy. The extrapolated value of void growth is reasonably agreeable to the 3-D analysis of void growinq in the crack tIp field, and maybe the model can be used to study the Ductile-Brittle transition.
