Abstract:

The method was formulated that can be used to calculate the stealth performance of aircraft shielded by chaff corridor. The antagonism case was considered that the attacker penetrates or translates under the shielding of a chaff corridor generated by another aircraft. Some examples, which calculated the impact of chaff and RCS of targets on stealth performance, were given. The conclusions were made as follows: throwing 60 000 pieces of chaff on the penetrating way can increase markedly the stealth ability of aircraft, and thus targets with RCS less than 100 square meters can hardly be detected by normal radar. Even though there is 30dB detectability improvement in clutter for radar, the detectability performance on condition of chaff jamming is still worse than on condition of surface clutter and noise. However it should be noted that the battle environment, the climate condition and other factors could also affect the outstanding jamming effect of chaff.
