Abstract:

The effect of combustor pressure on soot concentrati on and flame radiation was investigated in a small model gas turbine combustor with an air-blast atomizer. Experimental results showed that the soot concentration and flame radiation in the primary zone increase rapidly with the increasing combustor pressure; however, its increasing rate is reduced as the pressure of the blast air is increased. Flame rediation along the axial length of the fla me tube decreases at different pressures, which is more apparent at higher pressures. The decrease is mainly caused by fast soot oxidation along the axial length of the flame tube at higher pressures, and substantially produced by the reduction of gas radiation at lower pressures.
