Abstract:

The conventional concept of helical movement and theory of helix/helicoidal are no more applied to revolving cutters with arbitrary configuration. A generalized helical movement concept has been presented with respect to widely used complicated shape revolving cutting tools, such as mould mills, revolving files and spherical hob. With this concept, a generalized helix model and a generalized helicoidal model of complicated shape revolving cutters are formulated, which are unified to all sorts of revolving cutters. An example is presented to explain how the concept and modeling method are applied.
