Abstract: In view of the multiple factors and their interactive influences affecting the transmission performance of harmonic drives used in spacecraft, thermal-vacuum tests are performed using harmonic drive of type XB1-60-150. Based on the interactive orthogonal design method, the effects of rotational speed, surrounding temperature, output load torque, and lubrication type on the transmission efficiency of the harmonic drive are investigated. Range analysis and variance analysis are applied to analyze the sensitivity of these factors and their coupling influences. The results achieved by both range analysis and variance analysis are close. When confidence p=99%, the study indicaties that rotational speed and surrounding temperature have notable effect on the transmission performance of harmonic drive, and so do the interactive influences of output load torque and lubrication type. The best application conditions are obtained by interactive analysis under which the transmission performance of harmonic drive can achieve the most satisfactory effect.
