Abstract: A doubly salient brushless high voltage DC power system, which is composed of a 12/8 pole electromagnetic doubly salient (EMDS) generator and a diode bridge rectifier, is developed. The working principle of the voltage regulator system under sudden load changes is analyzed, and the effect of the filter capacitance of tri-phase rectifying bridge on dynamic characteristics for the EMDS brushless DC power system is discussed. In order to improve further the dynamic characteristic, the PI algorithm which adds load-current feedback compensating (LCFC) control is developed. The proposed LCFC method has been compared with the traditional PI. The experimental results not only verify the theoretical analysis, but also prove that the voltage variety is reduced during loading and unloading transient process. A good transient process is achieved. The developed control scheme can be generalized in other digital voltage regulation system of DC generator.
