Abstract: A new assembly feature recognition method has been developed . The method employs depression protrusion features as intermediate geometry representation for transferring design feature into assembly feature. With the approach combining feature design with feature recognition, all depression protrusion features of the user-specified face can be identified. By satisfying all the necessary and sufficient conditions the desired assembly feature can be obtained. The approach is an improvement to traditional algorithm, and is more efficient and more reliable. As a result, assembling procedure and production model can be successfully supported by the assembly feature.
