Abstract:

This paper discusses design procedures for achieving a multiple input, multiple output, command and stability augmentation system for armed helicopters. It also discusses the use of balanced coordinates for obtaining a reduced order model and eigenstructure assignment techniques for designing a controller of a modern attack helicopter. Designing transient response characteristics is achieved through eigenvalue assignment and model decoupling through eigenvector shaping. Frequency and time responses are used to demonstrate the behavior of the feedback control system. Simulation shows good closed loop characteristics.

Key words: command and stability, augmentation reduced order model, eigenstructure assignment, multi variable decoupling
