Abstract:

Tensile properties of spray codeposited SiCp/2024Al composites at room and high temperatures have been investigated. After hot extrusion and heat treatment, the composites with 15% volume fraction exhibited much higher elastic modulus, better tensile and yield strength, but lower elongation than aluminum matrix. The tensile strength and elastic modulus of the composites at high temperatures increased remarkably over those of the matrix. The discrepancy of the room temperature tensile properties between the calculated and the experimentally determined values of the composites with different volume fractions was analysed, and the effects of porosity and particle distributions on the tensile properties were also discussed.
