Abstract: Fatigue crack-growth rates and lives for corner cracks at holes in three-dimensional bodies are studied by using the two dlinensional(2-D)crack growth analysis approach that is modified to account for crack-closure hehavior The 3-D crack growth analysis approach as- sumes that growth in the two principal directions of corner cracks at holes can be characterized by the stress intensity factors at the extreme points of each direction. The crack configurations are subjected to constant-amplitude fatigue loading under either remote tension. The predicted crack-growth rates and crack-growth lives for aluminum alloys 2124T851 and alloy-steels 30CrMnSiNi2A agree well with test data.
