Abstract:

The method of the combination of varying-lip and plate or rod is applied to simulate two kinds of total pressure distorted flow fields at the inlet / engine interface plane of an aircraft. The contour map of the total pressure with low pressure area at centre can be simulated by the method of the combination of varying-lip and plate. The contour map of small circumferential total pressure distortion with high pressure area at centre can be simulated by the method of the combination of lip and rod. The technique of the lip with cut-out can be used to simulate exactly the shape of the total pressure contour map. As a result, the simulated total pressure distortion index (DC60), the mean turbulence (Tu) and the maximum instantaneous distortion indexes (KθmaxorKtmax) meet the requirement of tolerance. This method allows one to simulate not only various complex contour maps of the total pressure and steady distortion index but also unsteady distortion index. The method is also inexpensive and convenient.
