Abstract:

In order to get the scattering field of the body with complex shape and big size such as the aeroplane and the missile, a hybrid mehtod is proposed in this paper. The "planar elements method" is used to calculate the scattering of the missile's surface. Edge-diffracted fields of the missile wings are estimated by equivalent edge current. The "modal field method" is adopted to evaluate scattering fields of the inlet and outlet. The three methods mentioned above have the advantages of simplicity and rapidness. The main contributions of this paper are:(l)The authors are the first to present in open literature hybrid method for computing RCS of the missile. (2)thc authors apply the planar element method used in aerodynamic calculation to compute the electromagnetic scattering field. (3)The authors develop a new modal field method basing on Pathak and Chuang's theory. The computation of the inlet's scattering field can be finished in personal computer. The results got by the hybrid technique for missile show that, as compared with the experimental results, the mean error of the method is less than 5 dB.
