Abstract: The modelling and analytic methods for the dynamic response of windshield transparency under bird impact are studied. The interaction between the impact load and the transparency response as well as the nonlinearity effect is considered. To employ conveniently the existing general purpose nonlinear finite element analysis programs, the momentum equilibrium method is used, other than the Conventional Lagrangian and penalty function methods. Meanwhile, instead of the incompressible fluid, a rubber-like hyperelastic Mooney-Rivlin material is suggested firstly to simulate the bird body in impact, thus the difficulty of continuously updating the contact point pairs and adjusting the discretized mesh during the analysis can be avoided. Remarks similar to those given in other published papers are concluded. In addition, a solution method for the dynamic response under the derivative dynamic load is studied and compared with the coupling solution, and consequent comments are given.
