Abstract:

This paper presents a new triangular element in the limit analysis of thin plates. The element makes it very easy for us to set up the stiffness matrix which is much smaller than those in other methods. With the principle of the steepest climbing path and plastic strain mode method, the residual stress modes can be formed naturally and the stress field of any structure can be easily described as a unified mathematical rule. Thus, the limit analysis can the reduced to a mathematical programming problem. This method has the following advantages, evident physical meanings, simple form of mathematical programming and less calculation. Some numerical examples have given satisfactory results, and that are useful in practical design.
