Abstract:

This paper is believed to be the first to present a hot working method which is called near-beta forging for titanium alloys. Experimental results showed that this new method strikingly raised the high-temperature properties, low-cycle fatigue behavior and fracture toughness of titanium alloy without reducing its plasticity and thermal stability. Therefore, this method makes the alloy possess the best plasticity, hot-strength and fracture-toughness simultaneously. The near-beta forging is applied to alpha-beta titanium alloys as well as alpha and near-alpha alloys.

Key words: near-beta forging, bi-modal structure, strengthening and toughening
