Abstract: Stress intensity factors for radial cracks emanating from a circular hole in an infinite plate, with radial and tangential forces acting at an arbitrary point on the hole edge, are obtained using the weight function method. The results can readily be used in damage tolerance design for structural components with arbitrarily loaded circular holes containing radial cracks. To demonstrate the approach, stress intensity factors with the hole subjected to fretting condition have been calculated and the effects of the friction between the hole and the pin on the crack growth life discussed.
