Abstract: This paper introduces the boundary element method currently used in engineering. Emphasis is placed on summary of references closely related to strength of aeronautical structures. A brief history of developments of the BEM is firstly given, followed by a summary of applications of the method in linear elastostatics, plate and shell theory, material nonlinear problems, elastodynamics, fracture mechanics, etc.
