Abstract:

The application of photoelastic stress-freezing method to the three-dimensional stress analyses for two configurations of aeroengine disks and drums is described. The simulation of the rotating centrifugal field during the freeing period is considered, which contains utilization of the apparatus with a rotating cover, principles of choosing test speeds and simulation of boundary conditions, such as the configurafion, stiffness and connecting mode of the parts to be fitted. The features of the photoelastic stress analysis are also discussed and the results are applied to primary strength analysis of compressor disks and drums. The severity of stress concentration in the areas of slots, the edge of eccentric holes and bolt holes of the compressor disk is stressed. Then, some measures of improvement are offered, which may be advantageous to structural design and development of new engines.
